A landmark in Kona, St. Michael’s Church was rebuilt after the original structure, damaged in the October 2006 earthquake, could no longer stand. The original church, made of lava rock and coral with questionable mortar, was deemed unsafe, prompting Murar Engineering and Design to step in for consultation. We assisted in safely dismantling the old church and preparing the new foundation, even uncovering and relocating the remains of the father buried beneath it to a new resting place.
The new church is a pre-engineered metal building, with meticulously designed structural attachments on all sides, including a standalone bell tower crafted by our team. Through careful planning and engineering, we upgraded the structure to meet the latest codes, ensuring it can withstand whatever nature throws its way. The rebuilt St. Michael’s Church stands strong, a symbol of resilience and faith, ready for generations to come.
