From the outside, this project blends seamlessly into its highly coveted Maui location, with an unassuming design that hides its true complexity. Inside, however, it presents structural challenges like no other—can you place a cantilevered pool on the upper floor that resists hurricane winds and seismic forces? Absolutely, and we did just that. Through an extensive 3D modeling process, we designed a network of steel columns and beams to create a robust space frame that keeps the pool secure while managing lateral loads, with the internal elevator core also providing lateral support.
Despite the intricate engineering beneath the surface, the exterior remains simple and elegant, perfectly concealing the complexity of this remarkable structure.
